So, what are these treatments that Andrea is having? The ones based at the Vision of Hope Clinic are Hyperthermia, Ozone and High dose Vitamin C infusions. She’ll be having these 6 days a week for 3 weeks and then probably twice a week for 3 months or more.

Hyperthermia is very similar to being in a sauna. By heating the body in this way various impurities that are within the body are removed by sweating and cancer cells are weakened as they cannot tolerate temperatures that healthy cells can. This high temperature creates a safe artificial fever in the body, which has been shown to increase antibody and white blood cell production in the same way that a natural fever would. Many pathogenic bacteria and viruses cannot survive in such temperatures, and cancer cells have been shown to die at temperatures from about 104-107°F (40-41.7°C). Incidentally, Hyperthermia is now an FDA approved therapy for breast cancer in the US.

Ozone is a form of oxygen molecule where 3 atoms of oxygen are joined together instead of the usual 2. Ozone increases the oxygen carrying ability of red blood cells, and helps them travel through the body by reducing clumping and making them more flexible. Cancer hates oxygen by the way, so by introducing Ozone into the sauna cabinet it is rapidly taken up by sweating skin pores that have been opened up by the heat.  This can then travel to the cells throughout the body, and more carbon dioxide can be eliminated from the body. Ozone can massively increase the benefits of hyperthermia, as the ozone can oxidise toxins, which may then also be eliminated from the body.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a major water-soluble antioxidant with a variety of biological functions. But even though vitamin C commonly functions as an antioxidant, it can also act as a pro-oxidant; where it actually oxidises tissues, which is what chemotherapy does (only Vitamin C does it without the damaging side effects). To obtain vitamin C at pro-oxidant levels, at which it destroys cancer cells, is only achievable by intravenous infusion. So by having these infusions the Vitamin C will selectively attacks cancer cells, will NOT damage other cells and will also provide immune system support to boot.

This 3 week treatment alone is going to cost in excess of £5000.

Since the beginning of October 2011 Andrea has already spent nearly £2000 on her new supplement regime and other treatments.

The high dose powerful supplements she takes, each in their own way are helping her body to rebuild itself, or helping to actively ‘get at’ the cancer cells.  On top of the intravenous Vitamin C she also takes an oral high absorption Vitamin C (up to 8000mg!)

Other supplements include:

Zinc, Vitamin D3, Selenium, Chlorella, Magnesium Citrate, Calcium Pantothenate, Supamag Plus (a mineral and B Vitamin blend), Homocysteine Support Formula, a wholefood anti-oxidant mix called Phytoshield and an enzyme mix (basically these give either immune support, are anti-oxidant and/or cleansing and building), and she also takes Strontium to aid bone building.

She is also taking some more unusual but clever formula’s:  IP6 (a B Vitamin combined with phosphorous) – which turns on the gene that stops cancer cells dividing – the p53 gene, and D.I.M (Di-indolyl Methane) which stops the formation of bad oestrogens which drive cancer growths, allowing the good oestrogen type to be made.

She also eats up to 35 apricot kernels per day (they contain tiny amounts of cyanide which attack the cancer cells).

Many of these supplements are at high dosages and quantities. Just to give you an idea, one of her supplement bottles contains 90 capsules. She takes 9 capsules a day; therefore she needs 3 bottles a month. Each bottle of this supplement costs £20 – that’s £60 for a 1 month supply. Most of her supplements last between 2-4 weeks. The cheapest one is £8 and the most expensive is £265. Her monthly bill for supplements alone is just under £600.00

Reiki is a non-invasive therapy whose purpose is to treat holistically and to restore homeostasis. Andrea has a Reiki treatment once a week. The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. It is known as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China and ‘prana’ in India. It works with the ‘energy cycles’ (more commonly known as the Chakras) in the body and also works through the Meridians (energy system).  Applying and appropriating the energy in the right direction, the Reiki energy helps to promote the management of stress and anxiety, to relax, to release emotional blockages and to increase energy and vitality.  The life-force energy also promotes physical, mental and emotional balance.

On top of all this, her diet, which she had already switched to Raw Vegan, has been tweaked somewhat by the Nutritionist at Vision of Hope so as to maximise nutrients needed for optimum function and restorative effect, and also function in line with preventing the cancer from obtaining foods it likes to feed off. So to this end she can consume as much as she likes as long as its ‘green’ and abstains from any foods that contain glucose (cancer loves to eat glucose and grabs it in any form to aid its survival). Being a ‘raw vegan’ meant she had already cut out most of the foods that are on the nutritionists ‘avoidance’ list so was already heading in the right direction.

Andrea is a passionate believer in food being one of the main if not THE main factor in our maintenance of a healthful body and mind and is passionate about informing others as to the benefits of various foods to health conditions.  Since learning more and more about the fundamentals of diet and health she has in mind a long term goal of retraining as a Naturopathic Nutritionist.  I guess we might all end up as test cases for her!

Let’s make sure that by donating to her cause she is free of the stress of money worries and can rest fully for her healing process and be on the way to healthfulness for her long term goal.

Way to go Andrea!
